Collaborative by Design
In landscape architecture, collaboration isn't just practical; it's a principle that weaves into the entire process. At Bayview, we recognize that successful design outcomes hinge on early, consistent, and transparent coordination across disciplines. We embed our expertise into the project from the outset, working alongside developers, architects, and civil engineers to meticulously align the landscape design with the project's comprehensive vision.
Rather than aesthetic flourish, we treat the landscape as a foundational layer, intrinsically shaping how people experience and navigate space. Our collaborative strategies ensure that real-world site conditions, programmatic requirements, and long-term maintenance goals directly inform every design decision. This approach cultivates resilient, functional environments from a project's inception.
A recent success demonstrating this approach is our work on the Eastman Way Revitalization in East Hampton Village. The project involved reimagining a series of narrow alleyways that connect Main Street to a municipal parking lot. Previously underutilized and serving as utility corridors for air conditioning condensers and waste storage, these spaces offered significant potential. Collaborating with EG Capital Group, Rice Architects, and Raynor Group, our team transformed these areas into a vibrant pedestrian experience.
The process commenced with a coordinated effort to relocate rooftop mechanicals and preserve existing brickwork. Concurrently, we addressed longstanding stormwater management issues through close collaboration with the civil engineering team. Each design decision supported the broader architectural goals while simultaneously enhancing the user experience on the ground.
Bayview developed a planting and hardscape strategy that functioned effectively within tight spatial constraints while also considering long-term maintenance requirements. We introduced cobblestone block edging to delineate garden beds and installed removable window boxes to accommodate winter snow removal. Custom flower pots were added to soften the architecture and establish a cohesive visual rhythm throughout the corridor.
This award-winning project stands as a testament to what's achievable when all disciplines are aligned from the start. By working collaboratively through every phase—from permitting to site preparation to planting—we delivered a design that is both practical and aesthetically compelling, making a demonstrable impact on the character and usability of East Hampton’s village center.
At Bayview, this integrated, site-specific approach represents the standard we pursue. Our landscapes serve both the people who use them and the teams who build them.
As we strategically expand our practice into new regions, including our recent entry into Connecticut, we continue to prioritize partnerships with architects, developers, and engineers who value design that performs as well as it inspires.
