• Landscape architects are licensed professionals with a degree in landscape architecture, have worked under a landscape architect to learn the craft, and have passed a four-part licensing exam. We are bound to protect our clients’ health, safety, and welfare and are required to keep up with new methodologies and trends to maintain our licensure. Landscape architects are best matched to clients looking for a bespoke design unique to their site and a fully transparent construction process.

By contrast, landscape contractors or design-build firms are not required to have licensed landscape architects on staff. The design fees are often lower in an effort to get clients to commit to completing the entire construction process with them. Their design for your property may be steered more by whatever they are familiar with designing (and the capabilities of their construction team) than what is the best design for your unique site. That means your outdoor space will look like everyone else's in the neighborhood. Oh, and those low design fees often turn into high construction costs because you can't take the design and get competitive bids from other contractors.

  • Our process starts with an online questionnaire and a follow-up conversation to understand your goals for your project. Afterward, we will give you a ballpark estimate for our design fees. If that investment is acceptable, we will schedule a no-charge site consultation.

  • Over 17 years in business, we have found that we add the most value to projects with significant scope and complexity. Our specialty is landscape architecture for new home construction and complete backyard makeovers, including pool environments, outdoor kitchens, fire lounges, stormwater management, plantings, and lighting. We enjoy turning challenging or ho-hum sites into incredible outdoor environments.

  • Yes! In addition to working with homeowners we work with developers, educational institutions, municipalities, resort owners and more. Our landscape architects have experience working on large scale projects to help make properties more welcoming to visitors and more functional in directing pedestrian and vehicular traffic, all while keeping maintenance needs manageable.

  • 6-8 weeks, depending on how many design professionals we need to coordinate with (architects, civil engineers, etc.) and your availability to collaborate on decisions.

  • You don't need any base knowledge of plants, building code, or pools before hiring us. We will work with you to understand how you want to use your outdoor spaces, we perform the due diligence to understand zoning requirements, and have extensive experience specifying durable and low maintenance materials. We will fit the design to maximize your enjoyment, whether that's spending hours a week tending to your vegetable garden or relaxing in your wading pool, sipping on a cold drink. We understand aftercare can be intimidating once the contractors pack up and go home, and we are always just a phone call or email away!

  • If you think Bayview is the right fit for your project, then we will develop a proposal that outlines our understanding of your vision and the scope of your project, along with deliverables. The basic building blocks for every plan set are a schematic design set, followed by design development, and finally, construction drawings defining the project details and specifications.

If you don’t already have another professional on your team to handle it, we can also manage permitting applications and represent your bid for a permit at your town’s Building Department hearings.

  • Yes! If it gets rained on, we design it.

  • We love native plants. They require less water and maintenance to thrive, are ecologically sensitive, and create necessary habitats for local fauna.

  • Not at all! Many clients hire us to design a "Master Plan" for their property. With a master plan, you can build the elements of your outdoor oasis over time, depending on your priority and available budget, with the comfort that each piece contributes to the whole.

  • Yes. Before starting the design, we will need a recent survey that shows topography and trees. If you don't have one, we are happy to recommend a surveying company and coordinate the work.

  • In the event you don’t wish to engage us for Construction Administration services, we are happy to provide contractor recommendations if you want to oversee the contractors yourself. One of the benefits of working with us for Construction Administration is that we will get quotes from multiple contractors to help you find the best value for your money.

  • Yes! Many clients see the value in having our team run the project from the earliest designs straight through construction until the last blade of grass is planted. We will handle the permitting process and all on-site activities as your single point of contact, regardless of how many trades are involved.

  • That's the million-dollar question! It depends on what elements you want to include in your landscape design. The level of complexity determines our design fees and the ultimate construction costs. Check out our cost calculator to explore further.

If engaged for Construction Administration services we will generate a construction budget early in the design process to be sure that the plans are in alignment with your desired investment.

  • While we don’t have a minimum, our typical single family residential projects are in the range of $7,500 (for projects with a very narrow scope) to $35,000 (for full property master planning). This design investment is independent of, and does not include construction costs. Check out our cost calculator to learn more.
