When developing the program elements for this beautiful property in The Incorporated Village of Sands Point, New York there wasn’t much left off the list. The homeowner wanted ample room for cooking and dining by the residence along with a natural pool environment all the while maintaining as much open grass as possible for the children to play. It was immediately obvious to our design team that if we were going to comfortably accomplish the wish list we were going to have to develop a forgotten corner of the property that had been wild vines and brush for years. By cleaning up this wasted space we were able to design a natural oasis destination pool that wraps you in lush planting and gives the feeling of swimming in a garden! The freeform pool was oversized for a huge shallow end for all sorts of pool games without sacrificing deep end for diving. The raised spa with cascade into the pool was veneered with a glass tile that beautifully catches the sunlight and the white noise of the cascade adds to the natural serenity of the space. A poolside wood burning fire feature extends the use of the space into the evening. Adjacent to the residence we wanted a large cooking, dining and entertaining space but not lose the intimacy of outdoor rooms. We accomplished that by building a dining deck with overhead painted cedar pergola that accommodates a table for 14 that is only a few steps away from the stone veneered outdoor kitchen with grill, refrigerator and trash drawer. There is beautiful detailing in the bluestone terrace trimmed with interior brick banding that repeats the brick used around the pool and lush gardens are everywhere you look. This project truly has something for every member of the family!
